Expressing unease, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson, Arindam Bagchi, addressed concerns over the recent case filed in a US court involving an Indian national, Nikhil Gupta, allegedly linked to a plot to kill Khalistani separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.

Bagchi stated, “The case against an individual filed in a US court, allegedly linking him to an Indian official, is a matter of concern. We have said that this is also contrary to government policy.” He emphasized the need for a thorough inquiry into the nexus between organized crime, trafficking, gunrunning, and extremism at an international level.

The MEA spokesperson also pointed out concerns related to Canada’s support for anti-India extremists, urging adherence to the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. Bagchi expressed dissatisfaction with the interference by Canadian diplomats in India’s internal affairs.
