In a significant turn of events, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) acknowledged defeat as counting trends indicated the Congress party leading in the Telangana assembly election.
Telangana minister KT Rama Rao, through a post on the social media platform X, expressed gratitude to the people of Telangana for providing the BRS party with two consecutive terms of government. Despite disappointment over the unexpected results, KTR maintained a positive outlook, stating, “But we will take this in our stride as a learning and will bounce back. Congratulations to Congress party on winning the mandate. Wishing you Good Luck.”
KTR, the son of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, is currently leading from the Sircilla constituency. In the 2018 elections, he secured victory with a margin of over 89,000 votes. According to the latest data from the Election Commission of India, the Congress is leading on 64 seats, surpassing the majority mark and poised to form the next government.
The BRS, which held power in the state for ten years under the leadership of K Chandrashekar Rao, is now set to exit from governance. KCR, known as KCR, had aimed for a hat-trick this time, following the 2018 polls where his party secured 88 seats. The Congress, led by Revanth Reddy in the state, conducted an energetic campaign with the goal of unseating the incumbent chief minister.
Telangana serves as a consolation victory for the Congress, which faced setbacks in the Hindi heartland, losing ground in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh where it held power. The party is also witnessing a potential defeat in Madhya Pradesh, where the BJP is heading towards victory with over 160 out of 230 seats.
