New Delhi,  Former Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has cast uncertainty over the future of the INDIA alliance following the Congress party’s setbacks in the state elections. In an interview with PTI news agency, Abdullah expressed skepticism, stating, “Judging the results of INDIA alliance in the state elections, if the situation is like this in the future, we cannot win.”

Abdullah remarked on the unexpected success of the BJP, saying, “BJP should be congratulated because we were not expecting this result.” He highlighted the unmet expectations in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Telangana. Reflecting on the Congress party’s strategy, he questioned the decision to withhold a ticket for Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav in Madhya Pradesh.

“Either the Congress has not been able to understand the ground situation in Madhya Pradesh. What harm could have happened if they had given 5-7 seats to Akhilesh Yadav?” Abdullah questioned. He also confirmed that his party, Jammu & Kashmir National Conference, will contest the state assembly elections independently.

In response to the election results, leaders of the opposition INDIA bloc are set to meet at Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence in Delhi on December 6 to strategize for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The meeting aims to discuss and finalize plans for a united front against the BJP.

At least 26 parties have joined forces as part of the INDIA bloc to challenge the BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The alliance has held three rounds of deliberations in Patna, Bengaluru, and Mumbai, emphasizing the need for a cohesive strategy.

Stay tuned for further updates on the political landscape and preparations for the 2024 elections.
