Chandigarh: Various employee unions in Chandigarh, including those from PGIMER, participated in a candle march organized by the All-India NPS Employee Federation. The march, advocating for the reinstatement of the old pension scheme, witnessed unions from different sectors, including PGIMER Nursing Welfare Association, PGI Security Guard Welfare Union, and Chandigarh Government Transport Worker Union.

The president of the PGI Nurses’ Welfare Association and AINPSEF, Manjneek, highlighted the perceived lack of financial security in the new pension scheme for government employees. The candle march, starting from PGI-SBI Chowk to Sector 17 plaza, aimed to draw attention to the growing demand for the reinstatement of the old pension nationwide.

Satveer Dagur, the state convener of AINPSEF, reiterated that the restoration of the old pension is the rightful demand of central government employees, and their fight will continue until it is reinstated. The unions emphasized that the National Pension Scheme falls short in providing financial stability post-retirement, unlike the old pension scheme.

Various employee unions actively participated in the march, expressing their collective voice for the restoration of the old pension scheme. The demand reflects the growing awareness and advocacy for the rights and well-being of government employees and their families.
