In an unexpected turn of events, the scheduled INDIA opposition bloc meeting, slated for December 6 in Delhi, has been postponed. The decision comes as key leaders, including Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, opted for a ‘no-show.’

Several prominent leaders expressed their inability to attend the meeting, citing various reasons. Nitish Kumar is expected to be absent due to health concerns, with representatives from JD(U) set to take his place. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin’s absence is attributed to the closure of Chennai airport caused by Cyclone Michaung.

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, during a media address, stated her party had not been informed about the INDIA bloc’s intention to convene in New Delhi. She highlighted the lack of information, expressing that if informed, the party would have adjusted its schedule to attend.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge reached out to alliance partners, extending invitations for an alternative meeting. The INDIA bloc meeting holds significance for Congress, especially after recent losses in key states. With discussions on seat-sharing crucial for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, the absence of key leaders poses challenges for the collaborative efforts.

The INDIA bloc, comprising 28 opposition parties, aims to counter the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The meeting’s postponement raises questions about the bloc’s internal dynamics and the challenges ahead, particularly with the Samajwadi Party adopting a confrontational stance.

As the political landscape evolves, the postponed INDIA bloc meeting reflects the complexities of opposition dynamics and the strategic considerations leading up to the crucial 2024 elections. Stay tuned for further developments.
