In a decisive victory, the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) is poised to lead the next government in Mizoram, securing 27 out of the 40 Assembly constituencies. Chief Ministerial candidate Lalduhoma achieved a resounding triumph in the Serchhip Assembly constituency, defeating the Mizo National Front (MNF) candidate J Malsawmzuala Vanchhawng.

The Mizoram Election Commission announced the results, confirming ZPM’s dominance with MNF securing 10 seats. Notable wins include the Tuichang Assembly seat, where the ZPM candidate emerged victorious, and the defeat of Mizoram Deputy Chief Minister Tawnluia in the same constituency.

In another significant outcome, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate K Hrahmo clinched victory in the Palak Assembly constituency, defeating MNF rival K T Rokhaw. The election results, initially scheduled for December 3, were postponed to December 4, taking into consideration the religious calendar’s significance in the Christian-majority state.

The ZPM’s triumph marks a substantial shift in Mizoram’s political landscape, positioning them as the primary force in the state’s upcoming governance. The election witnessed a competitive field, including the MNF, ZPM, Congress, and BJP, reflecting the dynamic nature of Mizoram’s political scenario.
