In a subtle jab at the previous Congress-led governments, BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi credits the robust GDP numbers to the shift from the derided ‘Hindu Growth Rate’ to what he coins as the ‘Hindutva Growth Rate.’ During a Rajya Sabha discussion on the Indian economy, Trivedi jokes about the days when the economy was ridiculed for not exceeding 2 percent, termed as the “Hindu Growth Rate.”

“With respect to the Indian economy, I am reminded of the days under Congress rule when our economy couldn’t grow beyond 2 percent. It was ridiculed as the ‘Hindu Growth Rate’,” Trivedi remarks.

Drawing a sharp contrast, he proudly declares, “At 7.8 percent, we now have the highest growth rate among all major economies of the world,” attributing this turnaround to the faith placed in Hindutva. He coins it as the ‘Hindutva Growth Rate,’ suggesting a shift from the meager ‘Hindu Growth Rate.’

“Now, it is no more a ‘Hindu Growth Rate’ but a ‘Hindutva Growth Rate.’ Now, the people (in power) have faith in Hindutva,” Trivedi asserts.

Reinforcing his ‘Hindutva growth’ argument, he adds that India’s fastest growth rate coincides with the ‘pran prathistha’ of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya next month.

The Rajya Sabha continues the discussion on the economic situation in the country during the ongoing Winter Session.
