Los Angeles, In a grand awards ceremony held in Los Angeles on Thursday, the role-playing hit “Baldur’s Gate 3” was crowned the Video Game of the Year. Developed by Larian Studios and set in the Dungeons and Dragons universe, the game immerses players in a fantasy realm featuring wizards, elves, barbarians, and various characters. Larian Studios founder and chief, Swen Vincke, accepted the award, expressing gratitude for the team’s six years of dedicated work on the game, despite facing challenges, including the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Vincke, dressed in armor reminiscent of a character from the game, acknowledged the significant effort put into “Baldur’s Gate 3,” which has garnered millions of fans since its release in August.

The 2023 Game Awards saw other notable contenders, including “Alan Wake 2,” a survival horror game that secured top prizes for direction and narrative. Developed by Remedy Entertainment and published by Epic Games, the game follows a best-selling author attempting to escape an alternate dimension. Game director Sam Lake, accepting an award, emphasized the power of collective vision and collaboration in creating impactful art.

The ceremony featured celebrity appearances by Matthew McConaughey and Timothee Chalamet, along with trailers showcasing upcoming titles. Hideo Kojima, the Japanese video game icon, provided a glimpse into his collaboration with actor and filmmaker Jordan Peele for an “OD” game. Kojima described “OD” as a unique blend of gaming and film, exploring the concept of testing fear thresholds.

The collaborative effort between Kojima and Peele aims to create an immersive and terrifying experience, pushing the boundaries of traditional media forms. Kojima expressed excitement about the collaboration, emphasizing the fusion of their backgrounds in games and movies.
