In a historic moment for Mizoram, Lalduhoma, the leader of Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), was sworn in as the Chief Minister at the Raj Bhavan complex. The ceremony, attended by key political figures, symbolizes a turning point in the state’s political landscape.

Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati officiated the oath-taking, underscoring the formal transition of power. The presence of ZPM members, including the newly appointed Cabinet Minister Vanlalruata, and the outgoing Chief Minister Zoramthanga, highlighted the unity within the party.

The political backdrop leading to this moment traces back to Monday’s assembly polls, where the ZPM secured a commanding victory with 27 out of 40 seats. This electoral success marked a significant shift, dethroning the long-standing Mizo National Front (MNF).

Lalduhoma, after a strategic meeting with the Governor, outlined the priorities of the new government. Addressing financial challenges head-on, he pledged to establish a resource mobilization team for financial reforms. With a keen focus on the agricultural sector, Lalduhoma emphasized the importance of purchasing agricultural products, revealing a four-item priority list.

The ZPM leader’s vision extends beyond immediate challenges. He committed to the construction of three hydroelectric dams, aiming to generate approximately 300 MW of power. In a reassuring move for the public, Lalduhoma promised a stable power tariff for the next five years.

This political milestone represents not just a change in leadership but also a commitment to addressing crucial issues facing Mizoram. As Lalduhoma assumes office, the state anticipates a period of transformative governance under the ZPM leadership.
