New Delhi,  The culmination of an extensive Income Tax Department operation targeting premises associated with Congress Rajya Sabha MP Dhiraj Sahu has revealed a staggering ₹353 crore in unaccounted cash. This landmark recovery stands as the highest-ever recorded in a single operation by the department.

The investigative saga unfolded on Wednesday when the Income Tax Department stumbled upon significant stacks of currency notes concealed within an almirah at the residence of the Congress MP. Faced with the mammoth task of quantifying this substantial sum, authorities enlisted the support of banks and deployed cash-counting machines. Notably, the State Bank of India (SBI) reportedly received 176 bags filled with cash during the counting process.

Amidst the financial scrutiny, an old tweet from Dhiraj Sahu has resurfaced on social media, dated 2022, wherein he voiced concerns about the prevailing corruption and accumulation of black money in the country. This development has provided a potent talking point for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with IT Cell chief Amit Malviya sharing the tweet and implying a stark contrast between Sahu’s past statements and the present circumstances.

The political fallout from this revelation has intensified, with the BJP seizing on the opportunity to lambaste the Congress party. BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala commented on the alleged magnitude of corruption within Congress, emphasizing the need to address the systemic issue.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah weighed in on the situation, drawing a connection between these raids and the opposition’s prior allegations of the Modi government misusing investigative agencies. Shah suggested that the recent events may substantiate the government’s position and serve as a response to accusations of political interference.

As the political discourse escalates, the aftermath of this unprecedented raid is poised to have significant repercussions, shaping the narrative surrounding corruption and financial improprieties within the political landscape.
