The North Central Railways (NCR) is gearing up to launch a unique accommodation experience at Prayagraj Junction, introducing 60 sleeping pods ahead of the anticipated Magh Mela celebrations starting in January. Designed to be both compact and budget-friendly, these sleeping pods aim to provide a comfortable stay for pilgrims.

Situated in the old booking office on the Civil Lines side of Prayagraj Junction, near the old and dismantled footover bridge, the ‘sleeping pod’ hotel is expected to be operational before the commencement of the Magh Mela on Makar Sankranti (January 15), marking the formal start of the 54-day fair.

Each pod, measuring eight feet in length and six feet in width, will be available at a flexible fare ranging from ₹500 to ₹1,500 for a 12-hour stay. The facility will also feature its own cafeteria for the convenience of guests.

Amit Singh, the spokesperson for NCR’s Prayagraj Division, expressed optimism about launching this unique facility in the state, emphasizing that it would be available for pilgrims during the Magh Mela.

The project, awarded to a Pune-based company after a tender process conducted by the Prayagraj division of NCR, involves the installation and operation of modern sleeping pods equipped with amenities such as phone charging, Wi-Fi, locker rooms, and bathrooms.

Out of the 60 sleeping pods, 45 are designated for single occupants, 10 for double occupants, and five for small families. Additionally, around 10 pods will be exclusively reserved for women passengers.

The sleeping pods will contribute to enhancing the lodging options available to pilgrims visiting Prayagraj during significant events like Magh Mela, offering a unique and economical accommodation experience.
