Lucknow, As the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) surprised political observers by selecting Mohan Yadav as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, the repercussions of this decision are anticipated to extend beyond the borders of his home state. Analysts suggest that the impact will be felt in neighboring Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, both states with a substantial Yadav population, contributing to a total of 120 Lok Sabha seats.

Mohan Yadav’s wife, Seema, who shares an RSS background, hails from Uttar Pradesh, adding a regional connection to the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister-designate. Political analysts believe that this move could have implications for the BJP’s strategy in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha polls, particularly in Uttar Pradesh, where the Samajwadi Party led by Akhilesh Yadav stands as a significant opposition.

“It’s true that Mulayam Singh Yadav’s clan in Uttar Pradesh and Lalu Yadav’s in Bihar are so far the two biggest political families whom Yadavs have largely been loyal to. By propping up a Yadav face in MP, it is clear that the BJP is now showcasing intent to dismantle the old notions,” commented a senior Uttar Pradesh BJP functionary.

Uttar Pradesh minister Girish Yadav expressed support for the decision, emphasizing that it would strengthen the BJP’s appeal to Yadav voters, a demographic significant for the party’s political success in the state.

The BJP, which secured six Yadav lawmakers from Uttar Pradesh, is strategically focusing on consolidating Yadav loyalty, a crucial factor in the state’s politics. With nearly 9% Yadav population in Uttar Pradesh, the community holds sway in key Lok Sabha constituencies.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had previously highlighted the BJP’s emphasis on the Yadav community during an event marking the death anniversary of Chaudhary Harmohan Singh Yadav, showcasing the party’s strategy for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
