In a recent development, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has formally requested the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to share information regarding individuals associated with pro-Khalistan activities residing in the United States. The request was made during meetings between NIA officials and FBI Director Christopher Wray.

This move follows allegations of Indian government involvement in the killing of Khalistan supporter Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada and a murder attempt on Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, another Khalistani leader, in the US. Discussions between the two agencies delved into the details of individuals believed to be recruited and embedded in the separatist movement against India.

The Khalistan movement, seeking a separate Sikh homeland in northern India, has gained global attention, especially with accusations of Indian officials’ involvement in plots against Sikh separatist leaders in North America. India has denied any connection with these incidents, emphasizing that such actions are not government policy. However, concerns persist regarding Sikh separatists in North America and Europe raising funds, training individuals, and advocating for India’s division.

FBI Director Christopher Wray’s visit to India, the first in years, marks a significant development in bilateral cooperation on security matters.
