New Delhi, In a strategic move ahead of the 2024 elections, the BJP has unveiled its Chief Minister selections for Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh, incorporating a calculated mix of caste representation and allegiance to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the party’s ideological parent.
In Chhattisgarh, tribal leader Vishnu Deo Sai, closely associated with the RSS, was appointed Chief Minister. The Deputy Chief Ministers include Arun Sao from the Sahu community and Brahmin leader Vijay Sharma. Former Chief Minister Raman Singh, a Rajput, was chosen as Speaker, completing a diverse caste matrix.
Madhya Pradesh witnessed a surprising choice with Mohan Yadav, a three-time MLA and prominent leader from the Other Backward Classes (OBC), being named Chief Minister. His deputies, Jagdish Devda and Rajendra Shukla, hail from the Dalit and Brahmin communities, respectively. Former union minister Narendra Singh Tomar has been appointed Speaker.
In Rajasthan, the BJP selected Brahmin leader Bhajan Lal Sharma as Chief Minister. The Deputy Chief Ministers include Diya Kumari, a member of the royal family, and Premchand Bairwa from the Scheduled Caste. Sindhi leader Vasudev Devnani is the Speaker for the Rajasthan Assembly.
The common thread among the appointed Chief Ministers is their close association with the RSS, emphasizing the ideological foundation of the BJP. As the party aims for a third consecutive term at the Centre in 2024, these choices signal a deliberate effort to appeal to voters across diverse caste lines.
