JAIPUR/NEW DELHI: In a surprising move, the BJP appointed first-term MLA Bhajan Lal Sharma as the Chief Minister of Rajasthan, sidelining the ambitions of ex-CM Vasundhara Raje and other contenders. Sharma, a former ABVP functionary, will be the first Brahmin CM of the state since 1990. The party also nominated Diya Kumari (Rajput) and Prem Chand Bairwa (Dalit) as deputy CMs, with Vasudev Devnani selected as the new speaker.

POLITICAL SHIFT

BJP’s Strategic Move to ‘Phase Down’ Old Guard and ‘Phase In’ New Faces

JAIPUR: The selection of Bhajan Lal Sharma as Rajasthan’s CM signals a strategic shift in BJP’s leadership, aiming to usher in a new crop of leaders. Sharma, a 56-year-old dark horse, rose from grassroots politics, serving as a member of the panchayat samiti and later as sarpanch. The decision is seen as part of the party’s ‘VRS Plan’ to transition away from older leaders like Vasundhara Raje.

CASTE DYNAMICS

Understanding Rajasthan’s Caste Equation in Political Power Play

JAIPUR:Caste dynamics play a crucial role in Rajasthan’s political landscape, with the BJP’s choice of a Brahmin CM reflecting historical trends. Dominant castes like Jats, Rajputs, and Meenas have traditionally opened doors for non-dominating castes, such as Brahmins. Bhajan Lal Sharma’s appointment aligns with this strategy, creating a diverse lineage of former CMs in the state.

SHARMA’S POLITICAL JOURNEY

From ABVP to CM: Bhajan Lal Sharma’s Remarkable Rise.

JAIPUR: Bhajan Lal Sharma, a former ABVP member and RSS affiliate, emerged as a key organizational figure within the BJP. His long-standing commitment to the party, highlighted by four terms as state BJP general secretary, and his role as one of Amit Shah’s ‘shock troopers’ in critical electoral missions, contributed to his selection as Rajasthan’s Chief Minister.

RAJE’S LEGACY

Vasundhara Raje’s Political Journey and BJP’s Message to Cadre

NEW DELHI: The selection of new Chief Ministers across states sends a clear message to the BJP cadre that commitment to the organization and hard work are paramount. While Vasundhara Raje’s supporters made last-ditch efforts, Bhajan Lal Sharma’s appointment signals a shift away from individual cults or satraps, reinforcing the party’s focus on collective dedication.
