Washington, D.C., In a noteworthy development, the Indian Ambassador to the United States, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, commended the launch of the first made-in-India bicycles at Walmart. The bicycles, produced by Hero Cycles in Ludhiana, India, have garnered attention for incorporating over 90% locally sourced raw materials.

Ambassador Sandhu took to social media, stating, “Make in India, Make for the World! Delighted to witness the launch of Walmart’s first made in India bicycles, manufactured by #HeroCycles #Ludhiana.”

Walmart’s venture into Indian-made cycles marks a strategic partnership with Hero Ecotech, aiming to triple annual exports from India to $10 billion by 2027. The initiative includes the introduction of ‘cruiser-style’ bikes, designed by Hero Ecotech with Concord branding, available in adult sizes for both men and women. These cruisers, now available in select Walmart stores, highlight the commitment to utilizing over 90% domestically sourced raw materials.

Andrea Albright, Walmart Executive Vice President of Sourcing, emphasized the significance of India’s role in supporting increased product demand, expressing excitement about the collaboration with Hero Ecotech. Walmart’s efforts align with the Walmart Vriddhi initiative launched in 2019, focusing on empowering around 50,000 MSMEs to contribute to the Make in India initiative.

As Walmart continues to expand its offerings with Indian-manufactured products, the move not only strengthens global supply chains but also contributes to economic growth on a global scale.
