On the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack, the Lok Sabha witnessed a significant security breach. Two individuals jumped into the chamber from the public gallery during Zero Hour, releasing yellow gas and shouting slogans before being overpowered by MPs.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor strongly criticized the security lapse, emphasizing that the individuals were reportedly sponsored by a sitting MP of the ruling party. Tharoor raised concerns about the new Parliament building’s security configuration, comparing it unfavorably to the arrangements in the old building.

The Trinamool Congress took to social media to criticize the BJP-led Union government for the security lapses. Questions were raised about how the breach occurred despite the Delhi Police, controlled by Amit Shah’s Ministry of Home Affairs, being on high alert.

Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, demanded that the Home Minister address both Houses and provide a statement on the incident. The Trinamool Congress urged for a thorough investigation into the breach and questioned the issuance of visitor passes.

Security experts expressed concern over the breach, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive review of security arrangements in the new Parliament building. Lok Sabha MP Karti Chidambram called it a serious security breach, highlighting the potential danger of the released yellow smoke.

Various political figures, including MPs from different parties, expressed shock at the security lapse on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament attacks. The incident has ignited a call for a detailed inquiry and a reassessment of security measures in the high-profile legislative space.
