In a strong statement at the United Nations General Assembly, Israeli envoy Gilad Erdan called on the international community to engage directly with Hamas leaders for a genuine ceasefire. Holding up a sign displaying the office phone number of Yahya Sinwar, the leader of Hamas in the Gaza Strip, Erdan stated that a lasting ceasefire would only be achieved when Hamas surrenders its weapons, turns itself in, and releases all hostages.

“I honestly don’t know how someone can look into the mirror and support a resolution that doesn’t condemn Hamas and that doesn’t mention Hamas’s name. But you know, I have an idea. If you want a real ceasefire, here is the right address. This is the phone number of the Hamas office in Gaza. You can all call,” urged Ambassador Gilad Erdan.

The UN General Assembly passed a resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, with 153 countries supporting it. However, Erdan opposed the resolution, emphasizing that Israel would defend itself against those seeking its destruction.

While 153 countries favored the resolution, 10 voted against, including the United States and Israel, with 23 abstentions. The Israeli envoy’s direct appeal to call Hamas offices adds a new dimension to the ongoing discussions at the UN regarding the situation in Gaza.

Stay tuned for further updates on the developments at the United Nations regarding the Gaza ceasefire resolution.
