Gqeberha, South Africa, The second T20I between India and South Africa at St George’s Park unfolded as a challenging encounter, with India’s bowlers grappling to grip the wet ball. Attempting to defend a revised target of 152, India faced a setback as South Africa’s openers, led by Reeza Henricks, propelled the score to 78/1 within the initial Powerplay.

Post-match, cricket analyst Gautam Gambhir delved into India’s bowling performance, expressing disappointment with Arshdeep Singh while offering support for Mohammed Siraj. Despite their combined figures of 58/1 in five overs, Gambhir emphasized the significance of wicket-taking impact, particularly praising Mukesh Kumar’s notable performance under adverse conditions.

Gambhir, acknowledging Siraj’s leaked 14 runs in the first over and Arshdeep’s 24 conceded runs, still highlighted the positive aspects. He particularly praised Mukesh Kumar’s spectacular 13th over, featuring precise yorkers with a wet ball against a formidable batsman like David Miller.

In the aftermath of the match, Gambhir reflected on the upcoming T20 World Cup, stating, “With six months to go for the T20 World Cup, and both Siraj and Arshdeep in contention for a spot in the squad, India looks beyond the results of bilateral series and identifies the group of bowlers who can be effective for them in death overs.”

Gambhir stressed the need to carefully monitor and assess the bowlers, especially in challenging conditions, emphasizing that bilateral series results may not be the sole criteria for selection. With Jasprit Bumrah’s established position in the team, the competition for bowling spots intensifies among Siraj, Arshdeep, Deepak Chahar, and Mukesh Kumar.
