Guwahati, In a recent statement at the ‘Agenda Aaj Tak event,’ Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma called for a caste census among Muslims in India. Sarma emphasized that conducting such a census would contribute to the empowerment of the Muslim community. He stated, “Hindus are our brothers, but Muslims are elder brothers. It is crucial for them to be strong.”

The Chief Minister criticized Rahul Gandhi, highlighting PM Modi’s focus on justice for Pasmanda Muslims and the need for a caste census within the Muslim community. This call follows the Assam government’s earlier decision to conduct a socio-economic survey of five indigenous Muslim communities in the state for their upliftment.

The move coincides with the recent caste survey in Bihar and ongoing discussions about caste-based census at the national level. Opposition parties, including Congress, have urged the center to conduct a caste-based census across India. The political landscape is evolving, with the Congress facing setbacks in recent state elections, while leaders exchange views on issues like caste representation.
