New Delhi: In a recent development, the Supreme Court has postponed the hearing of Trinamool Congress Party (TMC) leader Mahua Moitra’s plea against her expulsion from the Lok Sabha in connection with the cash-for-query case. A bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and SVN Bhatti deferred the hearing to January 3, 2024, citing the need to review case files.

Moitra was expelled from the Lok Sabha on December 8, facing allegations of involvement in “unethical” behavior related to cash-for-query charges. Her defense challenges the Lok Sabha ethics committee’s findings, alleging “substantial illegality” and “arbitrariness.”

The Supreme Court’s decision to adjourn the plea comes after Moitra’s lawyer, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, made efforts to urgently list the case. The court is expected to review the matter thoroughly before proceeding with the hearing in the new year.
