Filmmaker Karan Johar, while expressing his desire to grace the Oscars red carpet, asserted that his dream involves representing Hindi cinema at the esteemed awards. In an interview with Variety, Johar emphasized that despite the allure of Hollywood, his heart remains devoted to India, and he has no intentions of making films without the language that has shaped his artistic journey.
“It took a couple of trips to Los Angeles to realize that it is all wonderful and you have a lot of meetings, but my heart is in my country, and my cinema is in my heart. I don’t want to leave that. I don’t want to make films without the language that’s raised me,” said Johar.
The Variety Vanguard Award recipient at the Red Sea Film Festival expressed his eagerness to walk the Academy Awards red carpet but clarified his preference for doing so with a Hindi-language film.
Johar debunked the misconception that Indian cinema is solely about song and dance, acknowledging the diversity of stories in various languages and regions. He credited streaming services for showcasing this diversity on a global scale, asserting that the world needs to recognize and appreciate Indian stories and storytelling beyond stereotypes.
