As the fog season sets in, Northern Railway has proactively cancelled 62 trains, including those originating and ending in Delhi. Additionally, more than 40 trains have seen a reduction in frequency, and six trains are partially cancelled as a precautionary measure.

A Northern Railway official stated, “This is done in advance to keep passengers safe and ensure that trains do not get delayed for very long hours.”

Notable cancellations include the 14004 New Delhi to Malda Town Express and 14003 Malda Town-New Delhi Express till February 29, along with the 15058 Anand Vihar-Gorakhpur Express and 15057 Gorakhpur-Anand Vihar Express till February 28 and February 29, respectively. The 12583 Lucknow-Anand Vihar Double Decker and 12584 Anand Vihar-Lucknow Double Decker are cancelled till February 29.

Trains with reduced frequency include the 15035 Delhi-Kathgodam Express, 12226 Delhi-Azamgarh, 12225 Azamgarh-Delhi Express, 15127 Banaras-New Delhi, 15128 New Delhi-Banaras Express, and 12033 Kanpur-New Delhi, and 12034 New Delhi-Kanpur Express.

The official emphasized that planned cancellations are crucial in open areas where dense fog can disrupt visibility, leading to cascading delays. Commuters are advised to check their ticket and train status before embarking on their journey due to the unpredictable fog situations.

“The fog situation would escalate as we enter deep into winter, especially from mid-December to mid-January. So we advise people to check their ticket and train status before leaving home for the journey,” added the official, acknowledging that further changes in itinerary could occur based on the evolving fog conditions.
