In response to the recent security breach in Parliament, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has asserted that the suspension of 13 MPs from the Lower House is unrelated to the breach incident.

Following the breach on December 13, where two individuals disrupted proceedings by throwing smoke cannisters from the visitors’ gallery, Speaker Om Birla addressed all MPs in a letter, stating, “It is indeed unfortunate that some Members and political parties are linking the decision of the House to suspend some members from the service of the House to the incident which occurred on December 13, 2023.”

Birla emphasized that such linkage is unwarranted and clarified, “There is no association between the suspension of the Members to the incident on December 13. The suspension is purely to uphold the sanctity of the house.”

A high-level Inquiry Committee has been instituted to thoroughly investigate the incident inside the House, and its findings will be shared with the House in due course. Additionally, a High-Powered Committee has been formed to review security aspects within the Parliament Complex and develop a comprehensive action plan to prevent future incidents.

Six individuals have been arrested in connection with the security breach, and Delhi Police revealed that the mastermind, Lalit Jha, aimed to create anarchy and voice demands through disruptive actions.
