Varanasi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the second edition of the Kashi Tamil Sangamam at ‘Namo Ghat’ in Varanasi today. The cultural festival, set to run from December 17 to 30, will witness the participation of prominent dignitaries, including Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, Union Education and Skill Development Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

During his two-day visit to Varanasi, PM Modi will also unveil 37 projects with a combined value exceeding Rs 19,000 crore for Varanasi and Purvanchal. Additionally, he will flag off a new train route from Kanyakumari to Varanasi.

Preparations for PM Modi’s visit are in the final stages, with events such as the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra being the focal points, according to Varanasi Division Commissioner Kaushal Raj Sharma.

The Tamil delegation, consisting of approximately 1,400 individuals, commenced their journey from Chennai on December 15. The visit to Kashi includes plans to explore Prayagraj and Ayodhya as per the tour itinerary. Seven groups, symbolically named after seven sacred rivers of India, will travel from Chennai, Coimbatore, and Kanyakumari to Kashi.

Over 42,000 registrations were received for the event, and the selection committee chose 200 participants for each group. The Union Ministry of Education will serve as the nodal agency for the Kashi Tamil Sangamam.

The first phase of the cultural event occurred from November 16 to December 16, 2022, attracting over 2,500 participants from Tamil Nadu on an eight-day tour to Kashi, Prayagraj, and Ayodhya.
