In a recent development, the Madras High Court dismisses PIL seeking CBI probe into the graft case against Enforcement Directorate (ED) officer Anikt Tiwari. The court upholds the jurisdiction of Tamil Nadu’s anti-corruption wing DVAC.
The DVAC arrested Tiwari on December 1, charging him with threatening and accepting a bribe of ₹20 lakh. The arrest led to a raid at the ED’s sub-zonal office in Madurai. The high court bench of justices M Sundar and R Sakthivel rejects the plea for CBI intervention.
Tiwari, in custody until December 28, had sought bail on December 5, contesting the charges as “baseless and malicious.” Justice V Sivagnanam directs DVAC and the Tamil Nadu government to respond to Tiwari’s bail application by December 19.
The case unfolds as Tiwari is accused of accepting a bribe from a government doctor to close a case against him. The ED alleges criminal activities by DVAC, including trespass and illegal searches.
