In the latest Agricultural Marketing and Farmer Friendly Reforms Index by NITI Aayog, Uttar Pradesh has clinched the second spot with a commendable score of 92, closely following Andhra Pradesh with a score of 94. This ranking evaluates states based on their implementation of agricultural marketing reforms.

Deputy Director of Mandi Parishad, Sachin Kumar Singh, shared, “U.P. has implemented most of the marketing reforms, offering an excellent environment for doing agriculture business in the state.”

Other states such as Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Arunachal Pradesh also outperformed in various parameters related to agriculture marketing reforms.

The ranking criteria included direct agri-marketing, e-trading platform, single-point levy, single unified license, rationalization of market fees, rationalization of commission of aratiyas, e-NAM modules, deregulating fruits and vegetables, and exempting other states’ products from mandi fee.

The NITI Aayog launched this index in 2016 to assess states and Union Territories based on the implementation of seven provisions proposed under the model APMC Act. These indicators reflect the ease of doing agri-business and opportunities for farmers to benefit from modern trade and commerce.
