Bangalore, Despite their significant contributions, Indian women, especially those from marginalized communities, continue to face wage disparities compared to their male counterparts, according to Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud. Speaking at the Justice ES Venkataramaiah Centennial Memorial Lecture organized by the National Law School of India University, the CJI highlighted the persistent challenge of the gender pay gap. He emphasized the need for policies to address this gap, which he attributed to a complex interplay of factors including societal norms, cultural expectations, and systemic biases.

CJI Chandrachud also expressed concern over the societal biases against individuals with disabilities, hindering their access to public opportunities. He praised the Karnataka judiciary for being a leader in employing people with disabilities among state judiciaries.

The event, presided over by Justice BV Nagarathna, daughter of former CJI Venkataramaiah, saw a significant turnout of students and members of the judicial fraternity. Justice Venkataramaiah, a former CJI, was honored in the centennial memorial lecture.
