In response to the rising number of Covid cases in neighboring Kerala, Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao has recommended that senior citizens with co-morbidities in the state wear masks as a precautionary measure. Assuring the public of the state’s preparedness, Rao mentioned that the government is closely monitoring the situation in Kerala and has taken necessary measures.

Addressing the public in Kodagu, Minister Rao stated, “We will issue a detailed advisory soon and discussed regarding the same in a meeting. People over 60 years in the state with co-morbidities should wear masks as a precautionary measure. The state government has ordered all hospitals in the districts surrounding Kerala to be alert and equipped. We will also increase the number of tests being conducted.”

Rao urged people not to panic, assuring them that the situation is under control. He is scheduled to meet with the Technical Advisory Committee on Covid, led by Dr K Ravi, to discuss and ensure preparedness to face any potential challenges.

The Union Ministry of Health has initiated preparedness measures following the identification of the JN.1 subvariant of COVID in Kerala. This development underscores the importance of vigilance in the face of evolving Covid scenarios.
