In an exclusive interview with Hindustan Times Bangla, legendary actor Mithun Chakraborty shared insights into his role as Rahmat in the upcoming film *Kabuliwala*, based on Rabindranath Tagore’s acclaimed short story. Set to release on December 22, the film directed by Suman Ghosh promises to be a winter highlight in cinema halls.

Chakraborty, who plays the titular Kabuliwala, expressed initial apprehension about the role, considering the legendary actors who previously portrayed the character. He emphasized the significance of the film in the present context, stating, “Everyone is now trying to divide society. *Kabuliwala* is a great example of this. Because above all is humanity, nothing is above that. This is a big lesson from this film.”

The interview delved into Chakraborty’s preparation for the character, drawing inspiration from a Pathan friend named Jamaluddin Khan. Chakraborty highlighted the meticulous attention given to portraying an Afghan learning Bengali and speaking it with a mix of Hindi and Bengali.

Reflecting on his bond with child actor Anumegha, who plays a pivotal role in the film, Chakraborty expressed his love for children and the joy of becoming a child himself while interacting with them.

Suman Ghosh’s Kabuliwala* primarily targets a younger audience, but Chakraborty believes the film holds relevance for those over 30, emphasizing the timeless message of unity and humanity.

The interview also touched upon the changing dynamics of society and the need for a film like *Kabuliwala* in the current milieu. Chakraborty concluded with a powerful message: “Everyone is now trying to divide society. *Kabuliwala* is a big message in that regard. Like Mini says, ‘Your God’s name is Allah, my God’s name is Thakur. You bow, I bow.’ That’s the truth. That’s the final word.”

As the release date approaches, *Kabuliwala* stands poised to deliver not just a cinematic experience but a profound message of unity in a world grappling with division.
