New Delhi: India’s head coach, Rahul Dravid, expressed optimism about winning a maiden Test series in South Africa but emphasized the need for a bit of luck. Having made multiple attempts since their first visit in 1992, India aims to breach its ‘final frontier.’

Despite winning four Tests in previous visits, India has yet to secure a series victory in South Africa. Dravid highlighted the team’s past near misses, citing the importance of critical moments and the ability to convert opportunities into runs.

“We have come close a couple of times…just a few critical moments we have not been able to, maybe, get over the line,” said Dravid.

Reflecting on the team’s bowling performance in the last tour, Dravid expressed confidence in India’s ability to take 20 wickets with their current bowling attack. He acknowledged the role of luck in challenging conditions and stressed the importance of disciplined batting.

“You need a little bit of luck as well in these conditions…as long as you do your skills well and make sure that you are putting the ball in the right area,” Dravid remarked.

Dravid also commented on seamer Prasidh Krishna, making his Test debut, calling him a “promising prospect.”

India, led by Rohit Sharma, currently tops the World Test Championship 2023-25 points table after a win and a draw against the West Indies. The South Africa series is crucial for both teams in the ongoing WTC cycle.

India has played 23 Tests in South Africa since 1996, winning only four but maintaining the status of the third-most successful team in the Rainbow Nation.
