In a strategic move, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP National President J P Nadda have set an ambitious target of securing 35 Lok Sabha seats in Bengal for the year 2024. The leaders have formed a 15-member core election management committee to spearhead the campaign.
The committee, led by central observers Sunil Bansal, Amit Malviya, Asha Lakra, and Mangal Pandey, is notably absent of four junior Union ministers from the state. Shah emphasized the importance of giving 35 seats to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing confidence that it would pave the way for the transformation of ‘Sonar Bangla.’
During a meeting at the National Library, Shah addressed BJP karyakartas, outlining key objectives of forming a BJP government in Bengal, including putting an end to infiltration, cattle smuggling, and providing citizenship to persecuted individuals through the CAA.
Nadda highlighted the alleged misuse of central schemes by the Trinamool government in Bengal and emphasized the need to expose what he referred to as the government’s “dark deeds.”
The committee, set to be expanded into a 150-member election management team by January, includes key figures such as Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar, opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari, MP Dilip Gosh, and senior leader Rahul Sinha.
Shah urged BJP leaders to focus on rural voters during the campaign, while also addressing controversies surrounding TMC leader Mahua Moitra and criticizing mimicry of Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar.
The Bengal BJP is scheduled to meet on December 31, bringing together all MPs, MLAs, and office-bearers to solidify the poll strategy. The core committee’s work will be complemented by an expanded social media team, likely to include various influencers.
