New Delhi,  Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s acceptance of an invitation to inaugurate a Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi and the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. Tharoor suggested a strategic move by the BJP, presenting Modi as a “Hindu Hriday Samrat” in the 2024 Lok Sabha Election.

Tharoor, on his official X handle, quoted an India Today report, claiming that the 2024 election was shaping up to be “Hindutva versus popular welfare.” He highlighted Modi’s past narratives of economic development and national security, questioning the shift in focus for the upcoming election.

The India Today report mentioned the BAPS organization representatives extending the invitation to PM Modi, who accepted it. Tharoor speculated that these inaugurations set the stage for an imminent election call.

PM Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the Ram Mandir on January 22 and the BAPS Hindu Temple in Abu Dhabi on February 14. Tharoor concluded by raising questions about the BJP’s core messages and the issues that might dominate the election discourse.
