Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar dissected India’s heavy defeat against South Africa in the first Test, emphasizing critical issues in the team’s performance. Facing an innings-and-32-run loss, India struggled against South Africa’s pace and bounce.

In the opening Boxing Day Test in Centurion, India, after posting 245 in the first innings, faltered in the second innings with only 131 runs. South Africa, in contrast, dominated with a commanding 408 in their initial attempt, securing a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.

Tendulkar remarked, “From whatever I watched, India’s shot selection left much to be desired.” He acknowledged the skill of South Africa’s pace attack but highlighted India’s batting struggles. Only a few batters, including Elgar, Jansen, Bedingham, Kohli, and Rahul, appeared comfortable with the bat, navigating conditions with technique and poise.

The cricketing legend’s analysis underlined India’s lack of preparedness for the challenging assignment. The team’s batting weaknesses came to the forefront, leaving their aspirations of winning a Test series in South Africa in jeopardy.

The only chance for redemption now lies in a 1-1 draw, contingent on India leveling the series in the upcoming New Year’s Test in Cape Town. Tendulkar’s insights into India’s performance reflect concerns about the team’s preparedness and shot selection.
