This initiative stems from the vision to enhance Bihar’s investment prospects, as highlighted during the recent Global Summit held in the state. The logistics policy of Bihar is expected to play a pivotal role in supporting this initiative.
Key Facilities to be Provided in the Green Cargo Channel
The development of the Exim Cargo Green Channel will involve the identification of industrial terminals, transportation routes, state highways, expressways, investment zones, and industrial corridors. The Green Cargo Channel will offer amenities such as lay-bys, canteens, and rest houses for cargo vehicles in transportation sectors and terminals. The Industry Department has initiated the necessary protocols for the successful implementation of this initiative.
Bihar to Leverage Benefits from India-Nepal Motor Vehicle Agreement
Bihar stands to gain from the India-Nepal Motor Vehicle Agreement, particularly concerning import-export activities. The proximity of Nepal’s container depot (dry port) in Birgunj, located less than 10 kilometers from Raxaul city, provides a strategic advantage. Bihar is also formulating strategies to boost trade through its borders with Bangladesh and Bhutan. Notably, the SAARC Corridor Four, passing through India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, and Myanmar, could position Bihar as a robust gateway to international markets.
Government Initiatives to Boost Logistic Zones
With the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor in the picture, the Bihar government is focusing on developing Dedicated Logistic Zones (DLZ) dedicated to its boundaries. The state government is expected to announce plans for these logistic zones soon. Connectivity between these zones will be established, and basic infrastructure, including 24×7 power supply, roads, etc., will be provided.
Setting Up of International Container Depots (ICDs)
The establishment of International Container Depots (ICDs) within the state is encouraged to benefit from road/rail/waterway networks connecting four-lane and six-lane roads. The Department envisions that such initiatives will address various challenges faced by industrialists investing in Bihar.
In conjunction with the upcoming IT and Tourism policies aimed at attracting investors, Bihar aims to establish itself as a logistics hub by enhancing connectivity and streamlining cargo movements. The creation of the Green Cargo Channel and associated developments align with the state’s commitment to fostering economic growth and attracting investments.
