Quest for an ICC trophy continues, prompting former players and fans to question the team’s performance. India’s last major ICC tournament victory dates back to 2013, securing the ICC Champions Trophy under MS Dhoni’s captaincy.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan recently labeled India as the most underachieving cricket team globally, citing their lack of recent victories. Venkatesh Prasad, former Indian pacer, addressed the topic in a Q & A session on X (formerly Twitter).

Responding to whether India has become new ‘chokers’ in world cricket, Prasad dismissed the notion but expressed concern about the team’s failure to win any major tournament in over a decade. He acknowledged India’s notable achievements, including winning Test series against Australia, but emphasized the need for tournament victories.

In 2023, the ‘Men in Blue’ reached the ICC World Cup final at home and also made it to the finals of the 2019-21 and 2021-23 ICC World Test Championship but fell short of clinching the titles.

Prasad praised Virat Kohli, calling him a champion and highlighting 2023 as the batter’s best year. He recognized Kohli’s resilience after a challenging period and commended his hunger and zeal as signs of a true champion.
