Zomato, a prominent player in the food delivery sector, marked an extraordinary New Year’s Eve, witnessing a remarkable surge in orders that nearly rival the combined total of the previous six years.
CEO Deepinder Goyal shared this momentous achievement on social media, stating, “Fun fact: We’ve delivered almost as many orders on NYE 23 as we did on NYE 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 combined. Excited about the future!”
This exceptional accomplishment underscores Zomato’s significant growth trajectory, with New Year’s Eve deliveries serving as a testament to the platform’s increasing popularity for festive celebrations. The surge reflects a broader trend toward convenience and home-based enjoyment.
Users responded positively, with one expressing, “The Indian economy is really boosting, and I’m happy for restaurants. Hopefully, delivery boys will get some extra incentives, sir.” Another patron wished the Zomato team continued success in the year ahead.
In a separate development, Zomato faces a ₹401.7 crore show-cause notice for delivery charges collected over two and a half years. The notice, dated December 26, questions Zomato’s liability for this tax amount, including interest and penalties, from October 29, 2019, to March 31, 2022.
Zomato responded, stating, “The company will be filing an appropriate response to the show cause notice,” emphasizing the contractual terms and conditions agreed upon with delivery partners.
