In a remarkable turn of events on New Year’s Eve, quick-commerce and food-delivery platforms such as Zomato, Blinkit, and Swiggy witnessed an unprecedented surge in orders, according to senior industry executives. The top executives took to microblogging site X (formerly Twitter) to share insights into the order trends on December 31.

Zomato’s CEO, Deepinder Goyal, revealed that the food delivery platform accomplished nearly as many orders on New Year’s Eve 2023 as it did on the combined New Year’s Eves from 2015 to 2020. Goyal expressed excitement about the future and posted on X, “Fun fact: We’ve delivered almost as many orders on NYE ’23 as we did on NYE ’15, ’16, ’17, ’18, ’19, ’20 combined. Excited about the future!”

Albinder Dhindsa, Co-Founder and CEO of Blinkit (a quick-commerce delivery platform under Zomato), shared that the platform recorded its highest-ever number of orders in a single day along with the highest orders per minute. Swiggy’s CEO, Rohit Kapoor, also joined the updates, stating that NYE ’24 broke records across Swiggy Food and Instamart. He mentioned the orders per minute on Swiggy Instamart surpassed their previous high recorded on the World Cup Finals day. “The orders per minute (OPM) on Swiggy Instamart is the highest we have seen so far. It’s surpassed our previous high during the WC Finals by 1.6x,” Kapoor mentioned.
