PATNA, In a significant move, the Bihar Education Department has decided to take strict action against government teachers found providing private tuition. The Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) of the Education Department, K K Pathak, has instructed district magistrates to obtain written undertakings from all private coaching centers, ensuring that government school teachers refrain from conducting classes in these establishments.

The initiative comes in response to complaints about government school teachers engaging in private coaching alongside their official responsibilities. The department emphasizes the need to curb this practice immediately. If teachers are found violating the undertaking, the department will take stern actions, including legal measures against the implicated private coaching institutes.

Additionally, district education officers across the state are instructed to furnish details of such teachers promptly to the headquarters. The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) is gearing up for practical and theory exams scheduled to commence on January 10 for classes 10 and 12. The department emphasizes the importance of ensuring the presence of all teachers during the board examinations and restricts granting leave to more than 10% of total teachers in a school during the exams.

According to recent reports, Bihar has 12,761 registered private coaching institutes with 9,95,533 enrolled students. Patna holds the highest number of centers (1,017), followed by Begusarai (636) and Gaya (623). The state education department’s stringent measures aim to bring diligence to its officials, emphasizing regular school inspections and immediate salary deductions for absentee teachers.
