In response to persistent demands from residents, the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro) has announced plans to construct a new station on the extended route from Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to Nigdi. The inclusion of Tilaknagar will bring the total number of stations on this route to four.

Atul Gadgil, Director (Works), Maha-Metro, confirmed the decision, stating, “We have floated a tender for the new station.” The move comes after the detailed project report (DPR) initially proposed three stations—Chinchwad Station Chowk, Khandoba Mal Chowk in Akurdi, and Bhakti-Shakti Group Shilp Chowk in Nigdi. However, following the Centre’s approval of the extended route and an allocated budget of ₹910.18 crore, Maha-Metro released a tender specifying four stations, including the newly added Tilak Chowk in Nigdi.

The distance between Bhakti-Shakti Group Shilp Chowk and Khandoba Mal in Akurdi highlighted the need for a station at Tilak Chowk, aiming to provide better accessibility for citizens without relying on rickshaws, buses, or private vehicles.

With this addition, the total number of stations in Pimpri-Chinchwad is expected to reach 10, including PCMC, Sant Tukaramnagar, Nashik Phata, Kasarwadi, Phugewadi, and Dapodi. The completion of the project is anticipated within 130 weeks.
