ISLAMABAD: Following the conclusion of the seven-day ultimatum set by the Baloch Yekjehti Committee (BYC), its leader, Dr Mahrang Baloch, has outlined a new course of action to intensify efforts for the recovery of missing persons. Dr Mahrang Baloch announced the establishment of a protest camp in front of the United Nations (UN) offices.

Expressing gratitude to the judiciary for restraining Islamabad police and the capital administration from taking action against their protest camp outside the National Press Club, Dr Mahrang Baloch criticized the police for profiling participants and visitors, stating their presence was only to intimidate.

In a news conference, Dr Mahrang emphasized that their demand for the recovery of missing persons is based on basic human rights. While offering talks, she insisted on a change in the authorities’ attitude, mentioning ongoing harassment and lodging of FIRs against their supporters.

The BYC leaders pledged to continue nationwide protests, expanding the camp in Islamabad and initiating social media campaigns and shutter-down strikes. Dr Mahrang warned of establishing a camp outside the UN office if peaceful means fail.

She expressed regret over the Pakistan caretaker prime minister’s statement labeling missing persons as terrorists and questioned which court had declared them as such. The deteriorating situation at the camp, with participants, including children and the elderly, facing extreme weather conditions, was noted.

Philanthropists and political party leaders visited the camp, including Allama Nasir Abbas and Senator Mushtaq, donating warm bedding and clothing to participants.
