Patna, In response to the prevailing severe cold conditions, the education department has made a crucial decision to modify the school timings in seven districts of north Bihar until January 31. The altered timings, applicable for government schools in Purnia, Katihar, Araria, Kishanganj, Saharsa, Madhepura, and Supaul, are set at 10 am to 3:30 pm for Classes I to VIII and 9:30 am to 4 pm for Classes IX to XII. This replaces the regular schedule of 9 am to 5 pm.
However, it’s important to note that these adjusted timings apply only to students, with teachers adhering to the previous schedule. The education department has also issued directives to complete Mission Daksh, designed for students in Classes III to VII, and conduct special classes for Classes IX to XII within the stipulated time frame.
While this move is aimed at ensuring the well-being of students in the face of biting cold, reports from Patna suggest that there has been no change in the school timings as of now. District education officer Amit Kumar stated that there are no immediate plans to modify the schedule, despite complaints from teachers about the challenges posed by the cold weather.
Additionally, the state education department had previously instructed government schools to remain open on January 1, although many reported significantly low attendance on that day. In parallel, several private schools in the city have independently adjusted their timings, commencing classes after 8 am.
As the cold wave persists, the decision to modify school timings reflects a proactive approach by the education department, balancing academic activities with the safety and well-being of students during harsh weather conditions.
