AGRA, In the ongoing Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Idgah mosque dispute in Mathura, the mosque management committee has taken its case to the Supreme Court. Filing a Special Leave Petition (SLP), the committee challenges the Allahabad High Court’s December 14 decision allowing a survey of the premises through a court commissioner.

Tanveer Ahmed, Secretary of the Shahi Idgah mosque management committee, confirmed the filing of the SLP through advocate-on-record RHA Sikander. The committee contends that the High Court should have considered rejecting the plaint before entertaining miscellaneous applications in the suit. They seek the rejection of the plaint, citing the Places of Worship (Special Provisions) Act, 1991.

Ahmed highlighted that the Shahi Idgah mosque falls under the purview of the 1991 Act. Additionally, the committee disputes the plaintiffs’ claims, arguing a lack of evidence supporting the assertion that the original ‘karagaar,’ Lord Krishna’s purported birthplace, lies beneath the Shahi Idgah mosque. The committee characterizes the demand for an in-depth survey as mere guesswork.
