The ongoing cold spell in Delhi has led to the national capital witnessing an unprecedented peak winter power demand, reaching an all-time high of 5,559 MW on January 5, as per officials from the discoms. Real-time data from the State Load Dispatch Centre confirmed that the peak demand was recorded at 11:05 am.

Officials reported that the previous highest peak demand during winter in Delhi was 5,526 MW on January 6, 2023. BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) and BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) successfully met peak power demand in their respective areas, with 2,379 MW and 1,136 MW. Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL), serving North Delhi, also met a peak power demand of 1,735 MW.

While parts of Delhi experienced dense to very dense fog, the minimum temperature settled at 9.4 degrees Celsius. The India Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for the day, forecasting shallow to moderate fog and cold day conditions at a few places.
