In an unfolding controversy, Narayan College, Siwan, is at the center as Assistant Professor Khursheed Alam resigns following calls for disciplinary action over his social media posts advocating a “separate homeland for Muslims.”

Siwan, Bihar: Assistant Professor Khursheed Alam of Narayan College is under police investigation after posting divisive content on social media, triggering student protests and a show-cause notice from the university administration.

Alam’s controversial posts, including statements like “United Pakistan and Bangladesh #Zindabad” and expressing the desire for a separate homeland adjoining Pakistan and Bangladesh for Indian Muslims, led to immediate backlash. Students on the college campus protested, burning effigies and demanding his removal.

The university administration swiftly served a show-cause notice, questioning Alam’s engagement in what they deemed “anti-national activities.” The posts were later deleted, and Alam resigned from his position. In response, he issued an apology, stating he never intended to hurt anyone’s sentiments.

Siwan SP Shailesh Kumar Sinha noted that while Alam expressed his opinion, an investigation has been initiated based on the filed complaint. The registrar of Jai Prakash University, Ranjit Kumar, condemned the social media posts and communicated with local authorities, urging suitable action.

Alam, who headed the political science department at Narayan College, defended his posts, citing concerns about the changing secular fabric of the country. Students, however, insist that his remarks were aimed at disturbing communal harmony.

This incident highlights the growing impact of social media on academic professionals and the ensuing consequences of divisive content in the digital age.
