New Delhi, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar highlighted India’s ascending geopolitical significance, urging the nation to prepare for an expanded role in the contemporary world order. Speaking at the third P Parameswaranji Memorial Lecture organized by Bharatheeya Vichara Kendram, Jaishankar emphasized the need for India to undertake this role with a deep sense of historical and civilizational responsibility.

“I can tell you the world is actually today getting ready for us. It is we who have to make that effort to prepare for a bigger role, and to do that, we must do it with a sense of historical and civilizational responsibility,” said Jaishankar.

He underscored the importance of India’s history and civilization, stating that these elements set the country apart from others. Jaishankar provided examples of India’s positive influence, citing the nation’s assistance to neighboring countries during times of need.

“Today, our neighbors are more secure because there is an India. People saw it during Covid. Sri Lanka saw it during the economic crisis. The IMF was still debating what to do. We were the people who acted,” noted Jaishankar.

The External Affairs Minister contended that India’s international standing has garnered massive respect, with the world closely observing India’s progress in various fields, from healthcare achievements like Covin and Covaxin to advancements in technology and space exploration.

As India positions itself on the global stage, Jaishankar’s remarks underscore the country’s growing role and influence in shaping international affairs.
