At the Tamil Nadu Global Investor Meet (GIM) in Chennai, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal expressed Tamil Nadu’s ambition to achieve a $1 trillion economy by 2030. Goyal, addressing the third edition of the two-day GIM, emphasized the state’s ambitious goal of 18 percent annual growth, aiming to drive industrialization, create job opportunities, and inspire the younger generation towards significant objectives.

Goyal advocated for a partnership model between the central and state governments to expedite project delivery and development. He highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent inauguration of projects surpassing Rs 20,000 crore in Tamil Nadu, with additional initiatives in the pipeline.

Major industrial players, including Tata Electronics, JSW Energy, and TVS Group, committed substantial investments during the two-day investor meet. The state, in fierce competition with others like Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Telangana, aims to reclaim its position as a premier investment destination.

Reaffirming the commitment to ease of doing business and improved infrastructure, Goyal assured investors that the central and state governments would continue working collaboratively.

Acknowledging ISRO project director Nigar Shaji, who led the execution of the nation’s first space-based solar observatory mission Aditya-L1, Goyal praised her contributions, calling her the “daughter of Tamil Nadu.”

Stressing the significance of women in the workforce, Goyal stated, “43% of our women workforce works in Tamil Nadu. As more and more women come into the workforce, they will add twice to the GDP.”
