Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Global Investors Meet (TN GIM) 2024 commenced at the Chennai Trade Centre on January 7, bringing together leaders and innovators across industries. During a panel discussion on ‘young leaders driving transformation in business,’ Lakshmi Venu, Managing Director of Sundaram Clayton and Director of TAFE Motors, announced the launch of electric tractors, marking a significant step towards future-ready solutions in the farming sector.

Venu emphasized the role of sustainability in driving change within their organization. She stated, “Our traditional tractors continue to be at the forefront. However, we have recently launched electric tractors with auto steer and farm management system, to be future-ready for what Indian farming will be in the coming years.”

The Tamil Nadu Global Investors Meet is a two-day event featuring nine partner countries and more than 30 participating nations.

Venu, daughter of Indian billionaire Venu Srinivasan, Chairman Emeritus of TVS Motor Company, highlighted the importance of leveraging Tamil Nadu’s engineering and R&D talent. She expressed gratitude for the state’s support in building a conducive environment for research and development.

Investment in R&D Key for Transformation:

Rahul Mammen Mappillai, Managing Director of MRF Ltd, emphasized the crucial role of research and development in the transformation process. He mentioned the establishment of a dedicated R&D mini-factory designed for engineers to explore technology without production pressure. Additionally, a test track is set to be operational in six months.

Role of Academia and Universities:

Shankar Vanavarayar, Chairman of CII Tamil Nadu, highlighted the pivotal role played by academia and universities in developing the research ecosystem. He stressed the need for collaboration between regulators, universities, and the government to align research studies with industry needs.

Anjali Singh, Executive Chairperson of Anand Group, underscored the importance of skilling within specific segments, particularly in emerging technologies like machine learning and EV technology. Singh emphasized the necessity for collaboration between academia, the state, and industries to ensure timely development programs.

The panel discussion at TN GIM 2024 provided insights into the evolving landscape of business and innovation, with a focus on sustainable and future-ready solutions.
