Lucknow,  In a daring heist, thieves uprooted an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) belonging to the State Bank of India (SBI) in the early hours of Monday in Kagarol town, Agra district. The incident, cloaked in dense fog, occurred at approximately 3 am, leaving the police grappling to trace the culprits.

Police Commissioner Dr Preetinder Singh reported that a group of four to five individuals, wielding a pick-up van, executed the theft between 2:30 am to 3 am. The SBI ATM, located adjacent to the Kagarol branch, was forcibly uprooted and swiftly taken away.

The commissioner, inspecting the crime scene, expressed concern over the audacity of the theft. In response to the incident, the in-charge of Kagarol police station, Jasveer Singh Sirohi, has been temporarily moved to Police Lines for alleged dereliction of duties.

The branch manager at the Kagarol SBI branch disclosed that the stolen ATM contained approximately ₹30 lakh in cash. A formal police complaint was lodged by the branch manager, prompting the activation of the Special Operation Group (SOG) and surveillance teams to trace the perpetrators.

Authorities are diligently collecting footage from CCTV cameras in the vicinity to aid in the ongoing investigation. The rented premise housing the ATM and SBI branch is near the Kagarol town bus stand.
