India’s cricketing stalwarts, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, are expected to make a comeback in the T20 International arena as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) greenlights their return for the T20 World Cup year. The decision follows their commendable performance in the South Africa series.
Rahul Dravid-coached Team India, dealing with injuries to white-ball specialists Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya, will test young talent in the Afghanistan series. BCCI’s recent confirmation of Kohli and Rohit’s participation adds experience to the squad.
Former India opener Krishnamachari Srikkanth voiced his support for Rohit’s inclusion, stating that the skipper is indispensable for the ICC World T20. He also expressed confidence in Kohli’s capabilities, marking both as sure starters for the event.
“If Rohit Sharma says I am available, you can’t say you will drop him,” remarked Srikkanth, emphasizing Rohit’s desire to secure a World Cup victory. The absence of Rohit and Kohli in the T20I setup since the 2022 World Cup semi-finals has raised anticipation for their return.
Srikkanth added, “Virat Kohli would definitely want to win a T20 World Cup. Moreover, last year only the T20 World Cup took place, 13 months back. If they say they are available, I don’t think you can drop them.”
India’s T20I series against Afghanistan will serve as a crucial preparation ahead of the T20 World Cup, with Rohit and Kohli expected to play pivotal roles in the team’s success.
